Arturo Rodríguez was born in Las Villas, Cuba, in 1956. He emigrated to Spain in 1973, where he first began exhibition, and later permanently reolcated to Miami in 1976. Rodríguez quickly established himself as a painter in Florida and the United States more broadly. Since leaving Cuba, exile has been a prominent theme in his work.
Over the course of his celebrated career, the artist has received a Florida Arts Council Fellowship (1980), two Cintas Foundation Fellowship, as well as a Visual Arts Fellowship, South Florida cultural Consortium (1988), a Florida Arts Council Fellowship (1990), and a Florida Arts Council Fellowship (1991), as well as two Florida Individual Artist Fellowship Awards (1990-91 and 1998-99). Works by Arturo Rodríguez have been in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Jerusalem Museum, Israel; and The Norton Museum, West Palm Beach, Florida, among others.
